Welcome to Saint Rose Church
Welcome to the St. Rose of Lima faith community. We embrace your presence as well as your needs. Together, we pray and grow as we become the Body of Christ and take Christ into the world where we live and work and play. We, at St. Rose of Lima, share in the mission of Jesus, striving to place God first in all things, proclaiming the Good News in our lives, and persevering to grow in holiness. We are guided by the Spirit through prayer and sacraments and service.
The first Catholic Mass was celebrated in 1894 at Branstetter Hall, in Old Roseville. In 1908, a permanent church, named Ascension of the Lord, was built on East Grant Street. When a formal parish was established in 1911, the name was changed to St. Rose of Lima. As the community grew bigger, in 1960, a new church, rectory and school were built at the present location. This construction was spearheaded by Msgr. Corcoran, with the support of the St. Rose Parish Community.
The Sisters of Mercy directed the school. As the years passed, the Parish School came under lay leadership. At this point in time, the permanent Deacons became part of the Parish Life Ministry.
St. Rose of Lima is a diverse community. It provides Mass and Reconciliation, and other liturgical celebrations in both English and Spanish. There are many opportunities to participate in bi-lingual Masses and various events. One of our biggest events is the yearly Parish Mass and Picnic, which is held in May.
St. Rose Parish life is active and vibrant. There is a Parish Council, a Finance Council, a Building Committee and a Liturgy Committee. These groups serve in an advisory capacity to the Pastor.
There are many parish ministries and church organizations thriving in our church that support Liturgy, such as: Altar Servers, Altar Society, Music Ministry, Ministry to the Sick, Extraordinary Ministers, Proclaimers of the Word, Ushers and Welcoming Ministry.
Faith Formation includes Baptism Preparation, Religious Education, RCIA and many others in both English and Spanish. Spirituality and Prayer Ministries include prayer groups, the Prayer Line, the Rosary Makers and A.C.T.S. Devotional groups engage many in group prayer. Other Parish Ministries encompass Bereavement, Hospitality and Senior Ministry.
Social Outreach Ministries include Knights of Columbus, Respect Life, Health Ministry, Front Door Ministry and Homeless Lunches. St. Rose supports the St. Vincent de Paul Society, the Gathering Inn, WWJD, the Lazarus Project and Home Start. There are many more active organizations.
