Rev. Michael Baricuatro came to St. Rose after serving as the pastor of St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Paradise, CA. Fr. Michael finished theologate study at St. Patrick’s Seminary and University, Menlo Park, CA.
He was ordained a priest by Bishop Soto on May 31, 2010 at the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrameno. He served as a parochial vicar at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Chico, CA for two years, then at St. Isadore Catholic Church, Yuba City for two years.
After four years of being a parochial vicar, he was appointed as parish administrator at St. Thomas More Parish, Paradise, CA, then appointed as a Pastor at the same parish.
My name is Padre Cirilo Cervantes Gonzalez, I was born October 6th 1971 in a small town called Teul de Gonzalez Ortega in the State of Zacatecas, Mexico. I am the youngest of four siblings. My Dad, RIP, passed away when I was 17 years old, and my Mom is still alive. I did my studies of preschool, junior high and high school in my town then I joined the University in Zacatecas city but just for a short time, I realized that to be an Accountant was not my call. I then began to be involved in the church of my town and be active in volunteering; I had a conversion which showed me that I wanted to belong to God. That is when I made an experience with the Missionaries of Charity Fathers in Tijuana, I was turning 19 years old and it was the year of 1990. After the experience of two weeks I joined that congregation.
I began my formation of Aspirancy, Postulancy and Novitiate (1990-1994) in Tijuana. I did my Philosophical studies during this time at the Diocesan Seminary of Tijuana. I professed first vows June 29th 1994 in Tijuana and then I was sent to Rome to study Theology at the Pontifical University of St. Thomas Aquinas. During this time of studies for summer vacations, I went to do missions in Albania with the Missionaries of Charity Sisters (1994, 1995). Then after two years of Theology, I was sent to Calcutta India for 10 month mission experience (1996-1997).
On October 4th 1997 I professed final vows and continued two more years of theological studies, until 1999. On November 27th 1999 I was ordained to the Priesthood in Tijuana, Mexico. Then I was assigned to the community in Rome 2000- 2001 to help in formation of the young men (Aspirants) who were joining at that time. I also would go in the summer time for missions to Albania or Spain. In 2001 until 2004 I went back to Tijuana to help with the young men (Postulants) who were in formation. In 2004 I was sent to Kenya to learn Kiswahili, I stayed in the community around 5 months. In 2005 me and another priest went to found a community in Tanzania in a rural area call Bulungwa. This mission experience was unique because we were attending a quasi-Parish in the Diocese of Kahama. I learned besides the language and culture, how to bring a community of faithful Christians to build community and grow spiritually in the love of God and Our Blessed Mother Mary. My priestly ministry found its purpose during those years. In 2010 our community had to hand over the quasi-Parish to the Diocese. In 2011 I went to the community of Mexico City for around six months, then I was sent to Tijuana until 2015 where I was helping in the Shrine dedicated first to Saint Teresa of Calcutta. In 2015 I went to Mexico City, as administrator of the community, overseeing a soup kitchen for homeless people and different apostolates involving confessions for catholic schools.
I arrived in the Diocese of Sacramento in December of 2017 and was assigned as Parochial Vicar at St. Rose in Sacramento where I stayed over 2 years, then I went for 6 months to St. Monica in Willows as Priest in Charge of the Parish. and from September 01 of 2020, I will be serving the community of St. Rose of Lima in Roseville as Parochial Vicar.
I thank God for all he has given me throughout the journey of my life as a missionary and in the priesthood. I hope to serve everywhere He sends me with my whole heart, bringing everyone to love Our Lord Jesus and his Mother Mary.
