Quinceañeras
At St. Rose Parish the
celebration of Quinceañeras will be arranged
after an interview with the family. The
young girl will present a one-page outline
of what Quinceañera means to her.
The purpose of the interview
and outline are to clarify expectations and
agreements on how the occasion will be
celebrated. We want to avoid extravagance
and unreasonable expectations for families,
sponsors or church ministers.
In the United States, the
parish is at the heart of Catholic
Identity. With everyone’s participation
we:
-
Celebrate the Sacred Liturgy,
-
Announce the Teachings of
the Sacred Scriptures,
-
Form the Communion of
Believers
-
Proclaim Peace and Social
Justice.
We are stewards of the Sacred
Mysteries and give our Time, Talent and
Treasure to maintain the parish community.
The church building is the house where the
people of God gather to keep the memory of
the Lord Jesus, to renew their Religious
Identity and to celebrate their place
together in the Body of Christ. Our family
commitments, our vocation and our values
proclaim the “Good News” to the world.
Quinceañera has a secular
origin in Europe and a religious purpose in
pre-Christian Mexico. In both traditions it
masked the conflicted position of women in
society. That conflict remains to our day.
Quinceañera is a time for a young girl to
appreciate her family of origin and to know
that she has choices and opportunities to
determine her own life journey.
At St. Rose, we expect that
everyone will realize their human dignity
and respect their cultural traditions. We
will also guard our Catholic Tradition that
is the heritage of the church from the time
of Christ.
