Our History
The history of Saint Rose of Lima Catholic Parish dates to 1894, when Mass was celebrated at Branstetler Hall in Old
Roseville as a mission of Saint Joseph Catholic Parish in Lincoln. In 1908, a permanent church was built at East Grant
Street in Roseville and dedicated to Saint Rose of Lima. A rectory was built in 1910 as the parish began serving the
area’s growing population.
The current location of the church on Vine Avenue was established in 1960, when ground was broken for Saint Rose School.
The convent complex was completed in 1963, and the church opened with its first Liturgy, Midnight Mass, in 1966. The
Parish Hall complex was built in 1981 to complete the parish as it stands today.
Saint Rose of Lima Parish has been an exemplary leader in the Diocese of Sacramento in adopting the reforms of
Vatican II and expanding parish programs to serve parishioners as we proclaim the Kingdom of God in the world. We are
heirs to a living faith. The many priests, deacons, and sisters who have given their lives in faithful service to our
parish community have blessed this parish.
The growth of Saint Rose of Lima Parish, and of the surrounding communities, has required the development of new
parishes, including Saints Peter and Paul in Rocklin, Saint Clare in West Roseville, and Saint Joseph Marello in
Granite Bay.
Through this continued growth, Saint Rose of Lima Parish has become a diverse community with members from different
cultures coming together to worship and be involved in the many activities available in this vibrant parish.
